Assessment Activity

Sorry I did not post this earlier. It would not let me copy and paste it in, but I finally got it to work. Sorry that its late, I hope it doesn't affect my grade.

1. Genres are certain categories that fall under certain subjects. Music, sports, and cultures are amoung the few subjects that have different genres. Genres can be identified by how something is percieved differently by someone. They are produced through ones creation of some new aspect to the original subject, that essentually changes how it is observed/experienced/etc. . . .

2. In the subculture project inwhich I did my project on the Deer Hunters subculture, I wrote about the information using past knowledge on the subject. I basically broke it down, describing what a Deer Hunter is, and what they do. I then, in each paragraph, went into detail about all of the aspects in which makes this subculture a subculture. I did almost no research on this project, because knowledge of the subject was already abundant.

3. When I was creating content for subculture project, I basically just looked at what needed to be done on the project. The objective was the fully describe a subculture (Deer Hunters), and I did so by applying my extensive knowledge on the subject.

4. Project #1 and #3 you can compare and contrast in many different ways. In #1, extensive research, and concrete opinion are neccassary in this project. In #3, research can be used, but in my case, I used none. An opinion on whatever you are analyzing is needed, but the way inwich you discuss your opinion is very different. You are simply looking at the subject, breaking it down, discussing it, and applying your opinion on the given information.

5. If I were to write a paper on an argument for a change in some policy or practice within a community, I would write the paper alot like how I wrote project #1. I would use the internet to gather all of my information that I would use to help persuade the audience. The information, and the way I would write it would be in such a fashion to ge as many people on my side as possible. To distribute this to the community, my first choice would be to use the internet (Blog/Website). I would then try to get my paper in a local newspaper or magazine. I would write my paper knowing that my audience would most likely by teens and adults, so I would then use appropriate language, and good flow to keep them interested.

6. The cultural/community values/rituals/beliefs of a particular group
a. I would go directly to the internet to find my information. I would most likely use Google, or the trusty WMU library site to find any info.
b. I would simply just use the internet. Anything can be found using the world wide web.
c. The only people I would use to gather information are maybe local residents who are experiencing the subject matter, and how they feel about the subject.
d. The information I think would be desirable would be the information that supports my point, and my point only.
e. The criteria I would use to decide whether the info is good or not depends on the relativity, importance, and whether it clearly supports my position or not.
f. The kind of text I would create would be alot like the text in project #1. I would break it down in the same fashion, stating my opinion on the subject, break it down into main categories, and then describe what is going on with the use of good information.

7. One example of a website that may not be credable for this assignment would be Wikipedia.com. On this site, like you may already know, anybody can change the content under certain circumstances. Although many of the content is good, alot of it can be false, or blown out of proportion. Many times, different sources can be found through this website that are actually helpful, and factual.

8. In project #1, where we used citations, citations are necessary for many reasons. First of all, if you didn't use them it could be plagerism. Second of all, it helps the reader know that the information is credable, and came from a legitimate source. In project #2, citation was not needed because I was basically the primary source.

9. Citatino withing an essay help support your argument in many ways. You can throw in quotes from major figures in our society to help support your topic. Also it alows you to take information and data and use that in your essay. There is nothing like using data to help show the actuall raw information on the subject.

10. This semester, the most important thing I conquered was how to structure an essay. Before, I would just throw down my thoughts onto a piece of paper in no specific order. Now I know how to create a good thesis statement, create the main ideas, discuss them throughout the body of the paper, and conclude the paper in a way that really ties the paper together. I also learned how to not make my papers so boring, and to fluff them up a bit to keep the audience interested. That one activity where we read those 2 articles "How to write a boring paper," and "How to write a good academic essay," really helped me out on this.
